The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has called for concerted effort to help fight extremism and radicalization in the country.
The DPP said extremism seeks to spread fear, destruction and disunity through religious bigotry which have no place in Islam.
Mr. Haji said every Kenyan has the moral duty to contribute towards peace, prosperity and tranquility in the country.
He urged Muslim youth in the country to reject religious extremism in all its forms and embrace peace and unity.
He underscored the need for religious leaders to confront radical ideologies and militancy in the name of Islam.
The DPP who was speaking at Prideinn Paradise Beach Hotel in Mombasa during a two day anti-radicalization conference deplored the spreading of hate and venom in the name of religion.
The conference jointly organized by the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), national and the county government of Mombasa, Haki Africa a human rights body is running under the theme ‘enhancing participation in countering violent extremism’.
Mr. Haji said as a Muslim he has greater responsibility to ensure extremism and radical ideologies are not tolerated by the Muslim community in the country.
Mr. Haji who was accompanied by Coast Regional Commissioner (RC) John Elungata said Islam stands for peace and tolerance and has nothing to do with terrorism.
