The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, has underscored the necessity for increased resources to empower his Office in the effective administration of justice.

In his interaction with the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly on Thursday, March 6, 2025, the DPP pointed out that a lack of resources is obstructing the timely fulfillment of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (ODPP) responsibilities.

He identified critical operational areas that require urgent focus, such as combating corruption, terrorism, financing of terrorism, money laundering, and transnational organized crime.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, represented by Mr. Renson Ingonga, emphasized the necessity of bolstering support for case teams and witnesses, enhancing mobile court operations, undertaking policy evaluations, procuring office equipment, and investing in capacity building.

“He further underscored the need for a dynamic approach to prosecution, taking into account recent changes such as new laws, human rights-based prosecutions, technological advancements, and the evolving nature of global crime trends,” the ODPP noted.

Furthermore, the DPP provided the Committee with an overview of the ODPP’s Fourth Strategic Plan (2023-2027), which outlines a framework for the office’s activities, including collaboration with stakeholders. He also informed the Committee about the recent successful prosecution of high profile corruption cases.

“The ODPP aims to establish a dynamic prosecutorial service that is not only effective but also compassionate and just, meeting the needs of society while upholding the highest ethical standards,” the DPP emphasized.

The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee is chaired by Hon. George Murugara.
