The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, OGW has successfully secured the extradition of Kevin Kang’ethe to the United States of America.

Kang’ethe left Nairobi on September 1, 2024, and is set to face murder charges at Suffolk Superior Court in Pemberton Square, Boston on September 3, 2024.

The suspect returned to Kenya in 2023 following the alleged murder of Margaret Mbitu and remained at large until he was apprehended by Kenyan authorities.

He was presented before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, who ruled in favour of his extradition.

“He was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina who subsequently ruled that he be extradited,” read the DPP’s statement in part.

Mr. Renson Ingonga, OGW, expressed his unwavering commitment to support the United States, particularly the prosecution team, as they advance in this case.

“I wish to reiterate my commitment and support whenever needed to the United States of America and in particular the prosecution team as they proceed with the next phase of the case,” said Mr. Renson Ingonga, OGW.

“To the family of the Late Margaret Mbitu, we offer our support and prayers,” the DPP condoled.

This extradition follows assurances made by Mr. Ingonga to the Federal Bureau Investigations (FBI) Director Christopher Wray during discussions in Nairobi in June 2024, emphasizing his office’s dedication to ensuring swift justice in this matter.

“The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) remains committed to executing its constitutional mandate in accordance with the rule of law and further, with due regard to the public interest, the administration of justice, and prevention of abuse of the legal process,” read the statement in part.
