Drought mitigation Mbeere North

More than a 1000 farmers in Drought hit Mbeere region benefited with Sorghum certified seeds that expected to Change the fortunes of many farmers due to climate change.

Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance officer James Kanyi said they were empowering farmers to mitigate from the drought.

He said the Gadam sorghum variety that matures within 105 days and requires less rainfall than maize and bean varieties grown in the region.

Gadam has excellent malting qualities and it’s good for human consumption especially (ugali).
does well in lowland & medium altitudes.

Farmers who spoke said they were optimistic of better times after rains failed for a third year in row.

They said sorghum will be a better option to inter-crop with maize, beans and other crops that have been doing badly.

Many farmers have also shifted to Muguka Stimulant that has not done well due water shortage.
