In Kibera Huduma center, three government officials were arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers after falling into their trap.
Attached at the Kibera Huduma centre in Nairobi, the trio was arrested for allegedly asking for a 15,000 shillings bribes from a client.
But he was a client at all, unknown to them, the undercover posed as a foreigner seeking a birth certificate and national id.
The officials promised to help the ‘foreigner’ to secure the documents he wanted if at all he was willing to voluntarily part with Ksh 15,000, an amount that the EACC officer was eager to provide.
“Pesa ingekuwa hakuna kitu ngumu (If money was available, nothing is difficult0,’ the female officer was captured on a secret camera.
“Birth certificate tumtengenezee, ataleta tu hizo ID za wazazi, tuweke tu miaka yake, Birth certificate si nilikwambia ni pesa ngapi, ya mtumkuba! (Berth Certificate we will make one for him. He just needs to bring parents Identification Card (IDs), we put -cook- his years. I already told you how much Birth Certificate -faking- costs for a grown up?” the officer continued with her plans to issue the ‘foreigner’ with the documents he needed.
EACC CEO Halaqhe Waqo says the anti-graft agency will be conducting such impromptu raids in government offices to tackle corruption head on.
