The EACC will launch the NHIF graft report today, following the completion of a comprehensive examination of NHIF’s systems and policies, to identify systemic loopholes and weaknesses that allow the theft of public funds at the state agency.

According to EACC, the report will include the Commission’s findings and recommendations. “EACC has completed a comprehensive examination into the systems, policies, procedures, and practices of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) which was aimed at identifying systemic loopholes and weaknesses that allow theft of public funds at the state agency.”

“The resultant Report, including the Commission’s findings and recommendations, will be launched tomorrow, Tuesday, 5th March 2024.” read EACC’s statement issued on 4th March 2024.

More to follow.

NHIf and EACC conducted a joint presser whereby they announced the digitization of hospital Information systems for both public and private hospitals.

According to the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Medical Services, Mr Harry Kimtai, NHIF is set to implement a new system that allows patients to access healthcare services at any medical facility through the digitization of services.

This marks a departure from the previous requirement, where individuals were obligated to seek medical services exclusively at a pre-selected healthcare facility.

Kimtai also mentioned that digitization will reduce congestion in hospitals as well as corruption. Speaking at the press conference, he said,” This time we are saying we must follow the system, let’s allow the system to work. The referral system that we are talking about, we are going to ensure that we enforce it. We already have the policy in place, now we have the regulations to support us in that.”

He also emphasized that the partnership between the Ministry of Health and the EACC will go a long way in fostering the reforms made and entrenching accountability in the social health authority.
