The Cabinet Secretary for Education is scheduled to appear before the Members of the National Assembly on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024 to explain the new funding model introduced by the government.

During a session in the Chambers on Tuesday, Speaker Hon Wetangula declared that Mr. Julius Migos Ogamba will address the inquiries posed by Members of Parliament (MPs) during the Kamukunji meeting held on August 20th.

“The Cabinet Secretary will be expected to provide a comprehensive report on the progress made in implementing the New Funding Model, as well as measures taken to simplify the model and enlighten the public,” Speaker Wetang’ula said.

In light of the unfortunate event that occurred at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County, it is anticipated that CS Julius Migos Ogamba will present the House with a detailed report outlining the measures implemented by the Ministry to improve security and safety in educational institutions, thereby ensuring a safe learning environment in both public and private schools.

“The House must be fully apprised of the cause of this tragic incident and the remedial measures proposed by the Ministry,” Speaker Wetang’ula added.

“On behalf of the House, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the affected families.”

The Members of Parliament have also asked the Cabinet Secretary to provide the approximate total cost of education for an individual from the basic education level to the tertiary level and details on the amount of money that goes towards education bursaries and scholarships every year.
