The education sector in Narok county has been marred a myriad of challenges including early teenage pregnancies and female genital mutilation. Several girls have been forced to drop out of school with the county recording 40 percent teenage pregnancies. However, there is still hope for young mothers to sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations.
One teenage mother is currently sitting for her examinations at the Narok County referral hospital with others sitting for the examinations in Transamara and Narok north sub counties. Narok County Commissioner, Evans Achoki, who led the security personnel in distributing the national examinations to various schools said over 30,000 students will be sitting for the KCPE national exams in Narok county. Achoki who was speaking after touring several public schools in the county said all preparations have been made in the six sub counties with young teenage mothers being given a chance to sit for the examinations.
The commissioner stated that any mother who had registered for the national examinations will be given an opportunity to proceed with her examinations. He confirmed that one girl is currently sitting for her KCPE at the Narok County referral hospital.
