Eight killed, 12 injured after matatu collides with lorry on Mombasa-Nairobi highway

Early morning, eight people were killed and 12 others injured when a 45-seater matatu collided head-on with a lorry on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

The Thursday morning road accident was confirmed by  Kilungu sub-County Police Boss Zacharias Bitok

According to Zacharias Bitok the injured were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

“Those who lost their lives are four men and four women. Their bodies have been taken to the Machakos Level 5 Hospital,” Zacharias Bitok.

The that was involved in the road accident belongs to Jasho Company.

The matatu was headed to Nairobi from Mtito Andei when it collided with an oncoming lorry at DC area between Malili and Salama towns in Mukaa Sub-County, Makueni.

According to eyewitnesses, the matatu was overtaking another vehicle when the accident occurred.

Zacharias Bitok is the acting OCPD in Mukaa Sub-County.
