Lembus advocacy and welfare council of elders in Mogotio and Koibatek sub-counties have come out forcefully and demanded for the closure and relocation of Donkey abattoir in Chemogoch in Mogotio, Baringo.
The elders says it’s not only a taboo but a curse to slaughter a donkey whom they said assist them in several house chores.
Speaking today at AIC Muserechi, the angry elders led by Chairman Mareken ole Chebokel, Kabon Kibos and Advocacy secretary Edwin Kibos and several youths said they are seeking audience with the County Governor of Baringo Stanley Kiptis and equally the National Government to be told why the abattoir was built at a shrine under mysterious circumstances.
The elders regretted their sons and grandsons who had been working at the abattoir that has led to recent cases of donkey theft needs to be cleansed to avert God punishing the community for killing and eating donkeys which is a taboo.
