ELGEYO MARAKWET:THE JOURNEY OF HEALING TO PUPILS FACED WITH TRAUMA AFTER THREE OF THEM SHOT DEAD HAS BEGUN IN TOT

Healing process for pupils of Tot primary school in Elgeyo Marakwet county has begun after three of grade three pupils were shot dead while harvesting mango during the lunch hour.

The trauma they had to go through as they witnessed their colleagues laid to rest sent shivers among them as the killing happened meters away from the school compound.According to deputy headteacher said they were forced to remove the desk the late pupils were sitting on as it was left vacant and no one wanted to sit on for fear which was a clear indication on the trauma the pupils are facing following a chilling attack on minors.

Joan Jemutai of New Dawn of Hope a non governmental organization has started the initiative to provide guiding and counselling to pupils affected by Banditry in Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet along the Kerio belt, its an initiative that he has started to ensure affected pupils erase memories they witnessed during attacks, many pupils have been left orphans as the parents are shot dead during raids and the kind of trauma they face is in magnitude they cannot handle.

During counseling, comedians entertained them as spiritual leaders gave spiritual nourishment.

Many pupils and students in the counties of Baringo and Marakwet have been facing insecurity challenges where some of the schools are still closed to date as they are forced to flee and seek refuge elsewhere affecting them in their education and Joan’s move is part of the healing needed in the two counties, she has appealed for other partners to join hands in giving hope to Banditry students.
