Former Kenyatta University Television (KUTV) journalist Eliud Mutwiri has been nominated for the MCK AJEA 2024 Awards under the Blue Economy and Business Reporting category.

Eliud submitted Art of Glass which aired on July 1st, 2023 on KUTV.

He captured the story of a young Business owner in Syokimau, Dennis Karimi at Karimi Glass Solutions.

The young entrepreneur came up with a creative way of earning a living by repurposing waste glasses into useful household items like wine and water glasses, vases, and candle holders among others.

In the feature he takes us through the step-by-step process of repurposing a glass bottle. The bottle undergoes four distinct stages of transformation.

Firstly the glass is carefully cut, followed by the removal of any rough edges. Next, the top of the glass is leveled to achieve a smooth finish and then followed by a thorough cleaning of the glass.

The multimedia journalist highlighted the importance of reusing glasses as it helps in energy conservation, and minimizes extraction of raw materials and carbon emission. The story also encourages young people to think creatively in establishing job opportunities for themselves.

Eliud took to his X page to express his gratitude for the nomination.

“Proud and grateful to God for being nominated for the MCK AJEA 2024 awards under the Blue Economy and Business Reporting category. The nominated story I published at KUTV highlights an innovative venture by a Kenyan youth named Dennis Karimi,” he wrote.

“Thanks to the KUTVKenya team especially the Head of News Labaan Shabaan,” he further added.
