Energy Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, has confirmed that a 45-kilometre transmission line connecting the Loiyangalani Wind Power Farm to Loiyangalani Town will be commissioned by December 2025.
The announcement was made during a SenateLive session, underscoring the government’s commitment to bolstering renewable energy infrastructure in Marsabit County.
The new transmission line is set to deliver reliable electricity to Loiyangalani Town and its environs, driving economic growth and improving access to power in the region.
During the Senate session, CS Wandayi said, “Come December this year, we shall commission a 45-kilometre transmission line from Loiyangalani Wind Power Farm to Loiyangalani Town, unlocking the full potential of this critical renewable energy project.”
By connecting the wind farm to Loiyangalani Town, the project will provide a stable power supply to households, businesses, and public institutions, fostering development in one of Kenya’s underserved regions.
“The commissioning of this transmission line will be a game-changer for Loiyangalani,” said CS Wandayi, emphasizing its broader impact. “It will not only bring electricity but also create jobs and stimulate economic activity in Marsabit.
The Ministry of Energy has committed to close collaboration with contractors and local authorities to ensure timely completion. “We are working tirelessly to ensure no further delays,” Wandayi assured the Senate.
As Kenya pushes toward its Vision 2030 goals, the Loiyangalani transmission line represents a significant milestone in harnessing the country’s renewable energy potential.
