Enhancing Healthcare Access: KDF, BATUK, NTRH Conduct Medical Camps in Laikipia East

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), in collaboration with the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK) and medical personnel from Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital (NTRH), conducted three medical camps at Lokusero, Mosul and Nosorai during Exercise Haraka Serpent in Laikipia East Sub-County.

These medical camps, which complement government health efforts, benefited over five hundred individuals by providing general medical consultations, laboratory testing, cervical cancer screenings, family planning services and antenatal clinics.

Additionally, health education sessions were conducted to raise awareness on key health issues, including maternal and child health, nutrition and hygiene practices.

Speaking at Lokusero, Captain (Dr) Peter Gakuna, a KDF Medical Officer, emphasized the importance of regular quality medical check-ups, noting that access to such ensures that everyone obtains necessary and appropriate medical services.

“Quality medical care helps individuals to stay healthy and improves overall well-being of the person,” he said.

Mr. Stephen Lekonsoi, Chief Oloiborsoit, noted that residents normally travel far in search of medical care and the medicamp has helped.

“Our people walk more than twenty five kilometres to reach the nearest dispensary. This medicamp is a real relief to us,” he noted.

The medical camps aimed to provide quality healthcare services to remote communities, focusing on promoting preventive healthcare and enhancing access to essential medical services.

This initiative is part of a broader community outreach program designed to strengthen civil-military cooperation and improve the well-being of residents in hard-to-reach areas.
