The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a fresh increase in fuel prices, effective from 15th July to 14th August 2025.
The adjustment follows the provisions of Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act, 2019, and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022.
“In accordance with section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No 193 of 2022, the Energy & Petroleum Regulation Authority (EPRA) has calculated the maximum wholesale and retail prices of petroleum products which will be in force from 15th July 2025 to 14th August 2025,” stated EPRA.
In the latest review period, the maximum allowable pump prices for petroleum products have risen significantly:
- Super Petrol: Up by 8.99
- Diesel: Up by 8.67
- Kerosene: Up by 9.65
Consequently, the new retail prices in Nairobi are as follows:
- Super Petrol: KShs. 31 per litre
- Diesel: KShs. 58 per litre
- Kerosene: KShs. 58 per litre
According to EPRA the prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in accordance with the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and the adjusted excise duty rates tied to inflation under Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.
EPRA attributed the price hikes to global market trends, including higher landing costs and currency depreciation, which continue to affect the cost of importing refined petroleum products.
Motorists and households that rely on kerosene for cooking and lighting will now face higher monthly fuel expenses, with the latest increases expected to ripple across the economy through elevated transportation and production costs.
