Evaline Bonareri Charged With Conspiring to Commit Felony and Child Trafficking

Evaline Bonareri Okeya was charged on Monday before Milimani Principal Magistrate Hon. Gilbert Shikwe with conspiring to commit a felony contrary to section 393 of the penal code.

During the reading of the charges by Prosecution Counsel Judy Koech, it was revealed in court that the accused, in collaboration with individuals not present in court, conspired to engage in criminal activities, specifically those that facilitate child trafficking, by unlawfully fostering baby B.A. and baby X.Y.

Investigations revealed that the incident occurred on June 19, 2024, in the Kibra Kwa DC area located in the Kibra sub-county within Nairobi County.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the suspect was charged on different counts with acts that promote child trafficking.

“Further, the suspect is charged on different counts with acts that promote child trafficking contrary to section 4(1)(b) as read with section 4(3) of the counter-trafficking in Persons Act No. 8 of 2010 Laws of Kenya,” Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions wrote on X.

“The charges state that on the 19th day of June 2024 at Kibra kwa DC area in Kibra sub-county within Nairobi county, jointly with others not before the court, the accused unlawfully fostered a child namely B. An aged one month and two weeks and baby X.Y aged one month and one week for trafficking in persons,” ODPP added.

The lady pleaded not guilty to the four charges and was released on a bond of Kshs. 2 million with one surety of a similar amount.

The case is scheduled for mention on the 22nd of July, 2024.
