Wife to Aizlewood former Wales, Leeds United, and Charlton player Mark Aizlewood took her life as his husband awaits appearing in court over fraud charges.
Penelope Aizlewood, 54, had been divorced by Mark Aizlewood, an inquest heard Mrs Aizlewood was interviewed by police three times as part of their investigation.
54-year-old Mrs Aizlewood was found dead at their home in Chepstow, South Wales, after taking a combination of drink and tablets.
A post-mortem examination concluded her cause of death was as a result of a combined toxicity of alcohol and pills.
Aizlewood, 57, from Aberdare, has pleaded not guilty to fraud by false representation in connection with football-based apprenticeships.
Her daughter Holly said her mother suffered from depression for a number of years.
Miss Aizlewood said she lost her baby in childbirth in March and this had a “profound effect” on her mother. Mrs Aizlewood was found unresponsive by her daughter in her bedroom in June.
Charges
Aizlewood, 57, from Aberdare, has pleaded not guilty to fraud by false representation in connection with football-based apprenticeships.
He and five others face charges at London’s Southwark Crown Court after a Serious Fraud Office investigation.
The charge relates to the Coventry-based Learning and Skills Council and its successor, the Skills Funding Agency, which were both allegedly defrauded between 1 November, 2008, and 30 September, 2011.
Jack William Harper, 29, of Southport, Merseyside, Christopher Paul Martin, 52, of Catmore, West Berkshire, and Keith Anthony Williams, 44, of Cemaes Bay, Anglesey, also denied the count.
Steven Paul Gooding, 52, of Bridgwater, Somerset, will enter a plea to the alleged conspiracy on 31 October.
A second charge of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation was also denied by Aizlewood, Sugrue, Martin and Williams.
