Former Harambee Stars midfielder Collins Okoth, popularly known as Gattuso, and his co-accused Sylvia Aoko Odhiambo have been charged with the murder of a three-year-old child in Lucky Summer Estate, Ruaraka,Nairobi.
“Okoth, a renowned ex-Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars midfielder and his co-accused Sylvia Aoko Odhiambo denied murder charges before Justice Esther Nyambura Maina,” the ODPP stated.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the two appeared before Justice Esther Nyambura Maina at the Milimani Law Courts, where they denied charges of murdering baby Scovian Maya on the night of April 21st and 22nd, 2024, at approximately 1:00 AM.
“The two accused persons allegedly murdered a three -year-old baby Scovian Maya on the night of 21st and 22nd April,2024 at around 0100 hours,” the ODPP added.
Okoth, a former Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars player, and Aoko are accused of causing the death of the minor under unclear circumstances.
Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Gikui Gachuhi opposed the release of the accused on bail, citing serious concerns regarding the nature of the offense.
Furthermore, the prosecution was granted three days to file an affidavit opposing bond, while the defense was given time to respond accordingly.
The case is set for mention on September 25, 2024, as investigations continue.
