Expected traffic snarl-up as Israeli PM visits

A major traffic snarl-up is expected in the city following temporary closure of at least seven roads as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visits.

Nairobi County Commander Japheth Koome says Chiromo Road between Westlands and Museum Hill will remain closed the whole day for vehicles from Westlands to the central business district.

However, this will not affect vehicles from the city centre to Westlands. Later in the day, Uhuru Highway, Haile Selassie Avenue, Parliament Road, Wabera Street will also be closed.

“At some stage, Kenyatta Avenue and State House Avenue will also be closed,” Mr Koome said.

He added that Lang’ata Road would also be affected temporarily later in the day.

Some of the roads already affected are Forest Road, Kipande Road, and Waiyaki Way. At Westlands, an SGS truck has been used to block the lane heading to town.

Report say that Thika Road is currently at a crawl and motorists are being informed to avoid Forest Road.In addition, the”Westlands’ Ring Road roundabout is a huge mess, the same with Kipande Road”.

He also points out that there are few matatus to ferry passengers from town to Lower Kabete, and there are people stranded.
