Faith Kipyegon has etched her name in athletics history by winning her fourth women’s 1500m world title at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
The 31-year-old Kenyan athlete clocked an impressive time of 3:52.15, leading a remarkable one-two finish for the nation, with Dorcus Ewoi securing silver in a personal best of 3:54.92.
Kipyegon’s victory marks her third consecutive world title in the event, solidifying her status as the only athlete to achieve four world titles and three Olympic golds in the 1500m discipline.
Her unbeaten streak in major finals continues, affirming her place as a dominant force in middle-distance running.
Following her triumph, President William Ruto extended his congratulations, praising Kipyegon for her extraordinary accomplishment
“Once again, the indomitable Faith Kipyegon has brought immense glory to Kenya. By retaining the 1500m world title for the third successive time,” he congratulated.
“Thank you, Faith, for raising the bar for our nation, and thank you for drawing Dorcus Ewoi with you in an extraordinary 1–2 finish. By adding gold and silver to Kenya’s basket at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, you have lifted the spirit of an entire nation. Kenya celebrates you, Faith and Dorcus. Kenya is proud of you,” expressed the Head of State.
Interior Cabinet Minister Kipchumba Murkomen also applauded Kipyegon and Ewoi for their outstanding performances.
“Congratulations, Faith Kipyegon, on your spectacular run to win the Women’s 1500m at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships. Winning gold for the fourth consecutive time over the distance is no mean feat and attests to your preeminent talent. Special applause, too, to Dorcus Ewoi for a brilliant silver medal finish, and to Nelly Chepchirchir for securing fourth place in a hardly fought race. You all have made us proud,” he noted.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula echoed the sentiments of admiration, stating, “Faith Kipyegon claims her third world title in a row in the 1500m race, striking 3:52.15. Kenya once again asserted its dominance with Dorcus Ewoi claiming the silver medal.”
Salim Mvurya, the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy & Sports, expressed pride in both athletes, lauding Kipyegon’s relentless spirit and Ewoi’s fearless performance.
“Faith, your relentless spirit continues to inspire the world, storming to victory in 3:52.15 to lift your 4th World 1500m title. A true queen of the track! Dorcus, you stood fearless among the best, clocking 3:54.92 to seize silver, proving that Kenya’s future is just as bright as its champions,” he said.
