FKF relegate Sofapaka, Muhoroni, Thika United

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has released the names of clubs that will be taking part in the 2017 Sportpesa Premier League (SPL) season with Thika United, Sofapaka and Muhoroni Youth all relegated.

The three teams failed to meet the threshold for the Club Licensing requirements set by the World football governing body FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The FKF president Nick Mwendwa revealed on Monday 9th January in a briefing at the federation offices in Kasarani that the three teams failed the test with questions posed on their financial and legal situtations.

As the three get relegated to the National Super League, Nakumatt FC and Zoo Kericho will rise to the SPL, having acquired the provisional licenses.

In total therefore, the SPL will have 15 teams: Tusker, Ulinzi Stars, Gor Mahia, Bandari, AFC Leopards, Kakamega Homeboyz, Chemelil Sugar, Posta Rangers Western Stima, Mathare United, Sony Sugar, Nakumatt, Zoo Kericho, Kariobangi Sharks and Nzoia Sugar.
