The Ex-Governor of Samburu County Moses Lenolkulal has been fined almost Ksh.85 million after he was found guilty of corruptly receiving public funds amounting to Ksh.84 million.
Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki found Moses Lenolkulal and the co-accused guilty of abuse of office among other charges.
The former Governor and the other 10 co-accused were convicted of various charges including unlawful acquisition of public resources, abuse of office and also conflict of Interest.
While delivering the sentence on Thursday evening 29th August 2024, Chief Magistrate Nzioki said that the former Governor to pay Ksh. 85 million or serve an 8-year jail term for the charges.
“Each one of you to pay a fine of Ksh. 1M in default to serve 4yrs imprisonment. First accused person Moses Lenolkulal will pay a fine of Ksh83M which is equivalent to twice the benefit after apportioning public funds unlawfully acquired,” Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki said.
According to the judgement by Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki, Moses Lenolkulal was also disqualified from being elected or appointed to any public office for 10 years.
