Former Tigo executive hired as Telkom’s HR manager

Catherine Olaka was named the new HR head in Telcom’s latest management changes, aimed at turning around the telecommunication company which is newly under the control of a private equity firm, Helois. Ms. Catherine was previously heading Tigo’s HR department, but replaced Mercy Nduku, who exited Telkom according to the company.

The company has entrusted 1,300 employees under her watch that will help the company boost its financial performance. Ms. Olaka has over a two-decade expeience in the HR sector, inclusive of working at the the multinational company IBM, Ericcson Kenya, Pan Africa Life Assurance and Standard Chartered Bank.

Aldo Mareuse, Telkom’s chief executive, said in a statement. “Her expertise in organisation development and talent management planning will ensure the building of stronger and more motivated teams, which is critical for the realisation of our transformation agenda.”
