Four people have died and one person is in a critical condition following an accident along the Kisumu-Kakamega road.
Two died on the spot, while the other two succumbed while receiving treatment at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The accident occurred after a lorry driver lost control and collided with a pickup before ramming into a motorcyclist, killing him and his passenger, a woman, instantly.
The lorry was ferrying sand to Kisumu while the pickup was headed towards Kakamega when they collided at a blackspot near Coptic Church in Kisumu.The lorry driver and pickup drivers died, while the lorry’s co-driver is recuperating at the hospital.
The deceased were taken to the hospital’s mortuary.Nyanza Regional Traffic boss Simon Birir said the wreckage of both the pickup and the lorry were towed to Kondele police station.
Birir told drivers to be careful on the road and warned of a thorough crackdown of rogue drivers.
“We must stop reckless driving to reduce road carnage,” he said.The traffic boss told those operating Public Service Vehicles to strictly follow traffic rules.He asked passengers to assist them by raising the alarm when drivers flout traffic rules.
