Fresher is just a name-tag

Reflect on when you  joined high school decades ago. Possibly, the predecessors were all eager to meet the ‘fresh’ people from primary, with all walking around like lion hunting its prey.

With the chants ‘kurutu’, ‘monos’ engulfing the environment, the new-comers, you included, maybe looked confused wondering what would happen once the parents said goodbye you.

Such attention to new faces it’s not only given to form ones but also to first years’ on campus, and actually even at the workplace. You will constantly hear that collogue murmur, ‘kuna kafresh from campo.’

But what would people, especially team mafisi, be trying to signify?  Judging them by ‘we are many’, a common slogan that they use, I can actually testify that they mean ‘devouring’. But, they ought to note that not all freshers’ can be deemed fresh.

When an individual joins the campus, dear ladies, and men, most are over-18 and grown up. All of them have actually passed through various stages of life. One of them being puberty. A one-minute meditation and reflection of your past can help you open your eyes to understand what you call fresh.

If ‘fresher’ name does not emanate from the fact that, they have just joined campus and know nothing about it, then you are duped and need to recollect your approach to those ‘innocent’ first years.

The majority are not saints, and if you happen to find one then deport your ill-motive approach back to the streets and become a good person with him or her.

The fact that some of them are ‘born tao’ they can actually be thousands of miles far away from your perspective of intimacy, love, and relationship. And they can actually, slowly and correctly, articulate to you ‘members of mafisi Sacco’ with over 99 percent confidence, who have dared approach her.

At the workplace is no spare. When that young woman either an intern or recruit signifies that she is fresh from campus all they eyes of mafisi immediately change attention from the so-called dominant faces to the ‘fresh’ one.

But she might not be fresh as you may thing. They know how to club, and you may get shocked when you are introduced to some places even you never knew. Yes, and she is fresh! Live at the campus is totally different, especially without that parent gaze and close monitoring of how they are behaving. It’s all drama.

When you meet a campus girl, fresher, do not just jump to her attention. Even at workplace. Remember, fresh is just a name tag, ‘the real person may not be fresh’.
