Villagers from Muangeni village in Ngomeni ward, Kyuso sub-county could hardly hide their joy after a well-wisher constructed for them 8 classrooms, tapped water from a a nearby river, built washrooms, donated desks among other items to Muangeni Primary school.
According to locals, the school was very needy and learners were learning under the tress while others in mud-walled classrooms with no floor.
Arvind Raghwani, the Convener for Education & Medical – East Africa Satsang Swaminarayan Temple, and team who were handing over the complete project to community members said they have constructed 22 schools countrywide.
He said they came to know about the school after the community approached them where children were learning in mudwalled classes, others learning under trees and this was distracting their studies.
“We hope the school helps the Ngomeni community and specifically the children who are this country’s future,” he said.
Arvind also said in Kitui county they have constructed 18 schools.
“After we are approached, first we survey the area to ascertain whether it is a needy and deserving place,” he added.
The construction of the school took a period of four months and they do 2-3 schools every year, he said
He also added that the organization puts up medical facilities to needy areas as education and health sector is very key to mankind.
Ngomeni MCA, Eliud Nding’uri said the initiative is a big boost to the education sector in the area.
He also urged the humanitarian organization to help construct more schools in the area as the area is very marginalized.
Lenah Katila, the school BOM Chair said as parents, they have really struggled to put up the learning facility.
Lauding the exercise, Katila said it would have taken them more than 20 years to put up such infrastructure.
“Our school started in 2012 and we have had so many challenges but now after this huge support, we hope the education will also improve as learners will be in a very comfortable environment,” she added.
