Furious Youth Demand Raila to Pay Sugar Debt

Chaos erupted in Mumias, Kakamega County after rowdy youth took to the streets protesting against CORD leader Odinga’s visit to the area.

The angry protesters were demanding Mr Odinga to address issues surrounding the Mumias Sugar Company with some waving placards ordering the Opposition leader to pay a debt he allegedly owes the embattled miller.

Enraged residents blockaded the road intended to be used by Mr Odinga as he proceeded to Shianda grounds in Mumias East where he would hold his rally.

An ODM official stated that the youth had been hired by the Jubilee coalition to disrupt the Opposition leader’s meetings in the Western region. He added that they would not disclose his itinerary further in order to avoid such incidents.

Police engaged the locals in running battles before restoring sanity in the area.

The former premier has earlier been blamed by several politicians, including Deputy President Willliam Ruto and Majority leader Aden Duale, for the financial woes at the Sugar firm.

However, Mr Odinga has continually maintained his innocence and went ahead to sue Duale for defamation.
