GENDER DESKS

Rona foundation will partner with the Kenya Police Service to establish gender desks within police stations in Siaya, a director of the NGO, Roseline Orwa has said.

Orwa said the decision by the foundation to establish gender desks has been necessitated by the fact that most women and widows fear seeking services at the stations due to several factors, among them fear of the officers in uniform and language barrier.

The director said that the desks, to be manned by officers trained on gender issues, will ensure sanity and values are maintained, making those seeking services there feel comfortable.

She was speaking at Wagoma village in South Sakwa, Bondo sub county during the opening of a gender desk that will help widows and other victims of gender abuse in the area.

The occasion was also addressed by Siaya county police commander, Francis Kooli who said the police were committed to serving the public with dignity.
