Joho declines offer to be Raila’s number 2

Mombasa Governor, Hassan Joho, has distanced himself from marauding stories indicating that he will be Raila’s running mate during 2017 elections.

This came afer symptoms of split within Coarlition for Reforms and democracy (CORD) began emerging following comments by Wiper Chair, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka who said that he was going for presidency.

The Orange and Democratic (ODM) Members of Parliament (MPs), however, in response said that their party was more than ready to help their chair, Raila Odinga who is also the CORD principal clinch the top sought seat.

In their arguments, URP leader Moses Wetangula and Wiper chair Kalonzo Musyoka said that this was their time and requested Odinga to back them for the CORD flagship since they have sup[ported him more than twice and on both occasions losing.

The Mombasa governor, who had been highly tipped to be Odinga’s running mate as the stories of the split continued, said that his 2017 dreams are only governorship and on 2022 he would be ready to face William Ruto for the presidential seat.

He said he was campaigning countrywide to strengthen CORD and popularise Raila to face Jubilee in next year’s polls but had no interest to be his running mate next year.

“I want to make it very clear that I will defend my seat as governor of Mombasa in 2017. ODM has already endorsed Raila Odinga as its presidential nominee and I urge Wiper and Ford Kenya to do so that their nominees can face Raila in the CORD nomination,” Mr Joho said.
