Gor Mahia tops Sportpesa Premier League as AFC holds Tusker

Gor Mahia began their current season with poor performance after losing their key scorer Michael Olunga to Swedish club. Few days later, their coach Frank Nuttall left the champions and opted to go and coach Ethiopia giants.

The appointment off Brazilian coach, Marcelo “Ze Maria” Ferreira’s seemed to have changed things with K’Ogalo recovering its name, fame and form and as they used to do the previous season, and they began thumping goals on the nets of the opponents and winning matches.

Yesterday, Gor nailed the bottom placed Sofapaka 2-0 and consequently overturned the table by after going on top curtesy of goal difference.

Currently, Gor lead the league with 29 points ahead of Tusker who were held to 2-2 draw by AFC Leopards in a match that was also played yesterday.

All K’Ogalo goals were scored in the first half by Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho and skipper Musa Mohammed as Marcelo “Ze Maria” Ferreira’s side moved to 29 points.

Speaking after the match, Ferreira said he was happy with the display.“I am happy with the display, we will work hard to continue with this winning mentality. Our plan worked well.”

Elsewhere in Machakos stadium, Leopards forced Tusker to a 2-2 draw.The Tusker’s coach Paul Nkata acknowledged that the game was open but they failed to make use of the chances they had.

“This was an open game but at times we struggled to impose ourselves or even come to terms with their creativity,” Paul Nkata said.

Leopards meanwhile, extend their winless streak in the league to seven matches move to sixth on the log.

“I am a bit happy with the way we played, especially with the decision making of some players that I gave chances. This isn’t however the result I wanted,” Ivan Minnaert, Leopards coach said after the game.
