Gospel musician Alex Nyanchong’a Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone, was arrested and appeared in Milimani Law Courts facing multiple charges related to fraud.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Ringtone has been charged with conspiracy to defraud, false swearing, and perjury over a parcel of land measuring 0.1908 hectares and valued at Sh50 million in Runda.
The land belongs to Teresiah Adhiambo who filed a complaint at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.
This was after the suspect alongside his accomplice, Alfred Juma Ayoro, and other thugs stormed her property, forcefully evicted the care taker and took possession of it.
The incident prompted detectives from the DCI Land Fraud Unit to launch a probe.
Investigations revealed that the accused had filled a false affidavit on February 28, 2023, claiming ownership of the land for over two decades.
However, this claim was dismissed after DCI detectives confirmed that the complainant had consistently paid all property bills and land rates, confirming her rightful ownership.
“However, investigations revealed that the victim has been the rightful owner since March 14, 2000, diligently paying all applicable rates and bills to date,” stated the DCI.
A warrant for Ringtone’s arrest was issued on April 14, 2025. He allegedly evaded authorities for weeks before being arrested in his hideout in Kasarani.
He was arraigned in court where he pleaded not guilty to all charges. The court denied him bail and ordered that he be remanded at Industrial Area Prison.
The controversial artist was involved in a similar case in August 2016, where he was accused of attempting to grab a house from a family that claimed to have lived there for over 35 years.
Ringtone is expected to return to court on Monday for his bail application hearing.
