Government builds dams in the clan conflict prone areas to help foster peaceful co-existence among ever clashing clans.
Speaking in Bute, Wajir North during the official launch of Eresteno mega water dam, CS Mohamed Adan, EAC and Regional Development said the national government wants to keep on building peace among clans in the Eastern and North Eastern Regions.
He said the dams will bring together clans that live in the targeted areas and the different communities will be able to share water.
“This ,is about reducing inter-clan tensions and clashes over water and pasture. This mega dams have a higher capacity that can serve all the communities for a long period,” he said.
According to the CS, building of water dams will minimize clan conflicts and foster peaceful coexistence.
The dams will also be used in irrigation, crop production of farms nearby and that will be a source of income for the local communities.
The government building others dams in Galmagala in Fafi constituency, Isiolo, Marsbait and Mandera.
He said the government was keen on providing clean and sufficient water to all citizens.
Sh8 billion dam is also being developed at Bute in Wajir County.
He said the dams are now means of water catchment measures during rainy seasons that see water wasted in the region.
