The Government of Kenya has kept its promise to Farmers by revitalizing the agricultural sector.

Speaking at the Meru Cooperative Union 9th Annual Dairy Farmers Field Day, President William Ruto reaffirmed the government’s unwavering support to farmers.

Emphasizing the government’s dedication to revitalizing the agricultural sector, the President highlighted key initiatives aimed at increasing productivity and improving farmers’ livelihoods.

In his speech, the head of state underscored the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to farmers.

He pointed out that substantial budget allocations have been directed towards the agriculture sector to boost productivity and enhance farmers’ earnings.

One of the flagship programs, the subsidized fertiliser initiative, has yielded positive results by augmenting agricultural output and subsequently lowering food costs and the overall cost of living.

Highlighting the success of these efforts, President Ruto cited a significant increase in maize production from 44 million bags in 2022 to 67 million bags in the previous year.

This surge in productivity has been observed across all regions, indicating a robust and inclusive agricultural growth strategy.

Moreover, he acknowledged the strides made in the production of other key crops such as coffee, tea, avocado, and macadamia.

“The production of Maize, coffee, tea, avocado and macadamia has also increased. That was the plan we agreed on because you wanted us to manage our agricultural sector prudently,” the President said.

He attributed these achievements to the prudent management of the agricultural sector, which aligns with the collaborative efforts between the government and stakeholders.

Looking ahead, President Ruto assured farmers of continued government support and the implementation of additional measures aimed at further enhancing productivity and increasing farmers’ earnings.

This commitment underscores the government’s resolve to foster sustainable agricultural development and uplift rural communities.

The event was attended by prominent figures including Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Governors Kawira Mwangaza, Cecily Mbarire, and Mohamed Adan Khalif, as well as Cabinet Secretaries Mithika Linturi, Simon Chelugui, and Kindiki Kithure, alongside Members of Parliament and County Assembly representatives.
