The Government has expressed deep concern over the violent incident that occurred at Witima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri County, terming the act unacceptable and a grave violation of the sanctity of places of worship.
Violence of any kind has no place in society, and its occurrence within a church is particularly disturbing. Places of worship must remain safe spaces for prayer, reflection, and peaceful assembly.
Following the incident, interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen held meeting with the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, who has assured that investigations are underway and are being treated with the urgency and seriousness the matter deserves.
The Inspector General further affirmed that all those responsible will be brought to justice.
The National Police Service has been directed to act without fear or favour and to deal decisively with both the perpetrators and any sponsors of this act, regardless of their social standing or political affiliation. No individual is above the law.
“The police must move without fear or favour and deal decisively with the sponsors and perpetrators of this act without regard to their status in society or political affiliation,” stated Murkomen.
The Government remains firmly committed to upholding the core tenets of democracy, including the right to lawful assembly and the freedom of worship as guaranteed by the Constitution.
