The 2024 census for basic education institutions in Kenya has been launched by the government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).

Speaking during the event at Moi Girls’ School in Nairobi, Dr. Belio Kipsang, the Principal Secretary (PS) of the State Department for Basic Education, emphasized that the purpose of this school census is to gather accurate and comprehensive data on students, teachers, infrastructure, and resources.

According to the PS, by collecting this information, the ministry will be able to plan more effectively, allocate resources more efficiently, and closely monitor and evaluate the educational programs in the country.

“This means better facilities, more targeted teacher training, and improved curriculum development, all aimed at fostering a conducive learning environment for our students,” said the education PS.

The PS underscored the importance of accurate data, stating that it forms the foundation for the ministry’s plans, policies, and strategies to enhance the educational landscape of the country.

PS Belio further stated that accurate data enables identifying and effectively addressing gaps and disparities within the education system. It also helps determine where resources are most needed and ensures that every child has access to quality education regardless of their background.

Additionally, Kipsang highlighted that data-driven decisions lead to better educational outcomes, improved school environments, and equitable distribution of resources.

To streamline data collection and processing, the ministry will utilize advanced technology and innovative methodologies.

This approach will help overcome logistical challenges and maintain the integrity of the data.
