The government has rolled out several relief measures following the tragic dormitory fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County on Thursday night, which has so far resulted in the loss of 17 young lives.
Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, in a Friday statement, announced the dispatch of essential supplies to the school, including 50 bags of rice, 50 bags of beans, 100 blankets, and 100 mattresses, to support the affected community.
“50 bags of rice and 50 bags of beans are enroute to the site via special programs.100 mattresses and 100 blankets are also being dispatched, with an estimated arrival time of 1300hrs,” noted Dr. Mwaura.
He further noted that medical teams from the Ministry of Health and the Nyeri County Government Health Department are on the ground, assessing the healthcare needs of the injured survivors to ensure they receive timely medical assistance.
The government spokesperson also announced that the Pankaj Foundation has donated 50 first aid kits.
“The Pankaj Foundation has donated 50 first aid kits, which will be sent to the site today via ODP.MP Shah Hospital is also sending medical consumables,” he added.
Dr. Mwaura noted that education officials are coordinating efforts to liaise with parents and the community to manage the situation.
Additionally, the Red Cross is providing counseling services to the victims and their families
“National and County education officials are coordinating efforts on the ground and liasing with parents and the local community. Red Cross is providing critical counselling services to victims and families. Additional tents, blankets, and medical supplies are being coordinated by Red Cross and Special programs,” reiterated Dr. Mwaura.
He further reassured the public of the government’s commitment to supporting the families, victims, and the entire school community during this difficult time.
“We are working closely with all relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Red Cross, and any other key stakeholders to provide the necessary support,” noted Dr.Mwaura.
As the community navigates through this challenging period, these measures aim to bring immediate relief and pave the way for recovery and healing.
