Kericho County ,Senior Government officials who failed to attend the Madaraka Day Celebrations at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru are in trouble.
Mukhtar Abdi, the Kericho County Commissioner vowed to punish the heads of departments who snubbed the commemorations which were led by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday.
“We all know it’s a national holiday and we would all love to take a day off and rest. I am directing heads of departments of the national government that they must attend such functions or risk being punished. We will not take their absence kindly,” Mr Abdi said.
MCAs who attended the meeting questioned why some senior County Government officials including County Executive Committee members, 6 Chief Officers and heads of departments missed the National celebrations stating that the officials should be suspended.
“Who will we ask questions on the progress of development in the County if they fail to turn up for these meetings? Such officials should be suspended from office,” Kapkugerwet Ward Representative Samwel Ng’etich said.
The MCAs called on Governor Paul Chepkwony to dismiss the County officials.During the meeting, President Kenyatta spoke on the achievements of his administration since he was elected to office in 2013.He further encouraged Kenyans to uphold the freedom attained almost half a century ago despite differences in opinion.
“Half a century ago, young men and women made a new nation. They were armed with nothing more than their belief in justice, their conviction that they deserved to rule themselves, and their trust in one another,” Kenyatta said.
