The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its dedication to delivering high-quality, safe and dignified healthcare through the introduction of the Quality of Care and Patient Safety Bill.
According to the ministry the bill is aimed at enhancing accountability and raising the standards of health service delivery in Kenya.
Speaking during the Executive Convention in Mombasa, Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni emphasized that the Bill demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding patient welfare and strengthening health system performance across the country.
“The Quality of Care & Patient Safety Bill, championed by the Ministry of Health, seeks to strengthen accountability and raise standards across the health system ensuring every Kenyan receives safe, dignified, and high-quality care,” stated PS Muthoni.
This year’s convention is themed around enhancing the responsiveness, transparency, impact, and sustainability of government initiatives.
The Quality of Care and Patient Safety Bill will reinforce the role of regulation, continuous improvement and stakeholder collaboration in improving patient outcomes.
The Ministry of Health continues to prioritize reforms that place the needs of citizens at the centre of care, and the Bill is expected to drive widespread improvements in both public and private health facilities.
Once enacted, the Bill will establish standards, strengthen enforcement mechanisms and create systems for continuous quality improvement.
The convention, which brought together Principal Secretaries, parastatal heads, and regulatory agencies, focused on expanding access to quality services in marginalized areas improving responsiveness to citizen needs, and promoting the impact, sustainability, and transparency of government programmes.
