The Government of Kenya has assured all Kenyan workers that the proposed 6% minimum wage increase will be implemented before the end of this year.

Speaking during a meeting with Federation of Kenya Employers, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection Dr. Alfred Mutua highlighted the government’s  dedication to improving the welfare of workers across the country and ensuring fair compensation in the face of rising living costs.

“I want to reassure all Kenyan workers that the 6% minimum wage increase will be implemented before the end of the year,” said CS Mutua.

Dr. Mutua also highlighted the intrinsic link between fair treatment of workers and economic prosperity.

“we are fast-tracking the necessary councils such as the wages council, Seafarers Council, Agricultural Workers Council, and Private Security Guards Council to ensure this increase is realized. Our economy depends on the growth of the private sector, and fair treatment of workers is crucial,” the CS added.

To further demonstrate this commitment, Dr Mutua promised to pay a series of visits to various workplaces across the country, a move aimed to ensure occupational health and safety standards are met.

“I will personally visit various workplaces to assess the treatment of employees, ensuring that occupational health standards are met,” the CS noted.

The Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) pledged full support for the government’s efforts to maintain harmony in the labour sector.

The FKE emphasized its commitment to constructive dialogue and collaboration to resolve any emerging issues that may affect the workforce.

However, by engaging all stakeholders in regular dialogue and ensuring workplace standards are met,  the government aims to create a more equitable and sustainable work environment for all Kenyans.
