The government will be responsible to account for every life that was lost during the anti-government protests that were experienced in the last two weeks across the country.
This is according to the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Prof. Kindiki Kithure who said that the Cabinet regrets the loss of lives of young innocent Kenyans who were exercising their democratic right under Article 37 of CoK 2010.
“We have an account of every death, in the manner in which they died. Many of them died of gunshot wounds. We have activated the ballistic unit of the DCI and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau to help us account for the source of ammunition that killed the people of Kenya and also the circumstances in which they were killed. I say so because others died out of blunt objects and trauma caused by beatings and assault,” CS Kindiki said.
While speaking in a Television interview, the CS promised Kenyans that every life lost against our laws would be accounted for by the government of Kenya.
The CS requested Kenyans to be patient and wait for investigations to be done and actions will be taken against anyone who broke the law be it a Police Officer or a Kenyan who will be found to have been involved in criminal activities.
The CS emphasized that the country had a serious security breach in the last 2 weeks when peaceful demonstrations were hijacked by criminal gangs who had a different agenda from the dissatisfaction from Gen Z.
“The loss of lives that was occasioned during those protests is regrettable,” expressed the CS.
According to Prof. Kindiki, the criminal gangs were anarchists who tried to overthrow the constitution and tried to overturn constitutional order.
Prof. Kindiki briefed the cabinet on Thursday’s meeting chaired by President Ruto at State House, Nairobi on the state of security and the casualties witnessed during the protests.
“I did present and briefed the Cabinet on what has transpired in our country during the last 2 weeks and part of that outcome is that we have lost 25 people and nearly 400 people were injured including 43 police officers,” he said.
