The government will create six extra sub-county administrative units in Nyandarua in a bid to enhance service delivery and security to the public, Interior and national coordination Principal Secretary Mr Karanja Kibicho has said.
The PS noted that the region was vast and faced challenges in terms of geographical lay out hence the move to add the administrative units.
Mr Kibicho pointed out that cases of cattle rustling and general criminal activities were on the upsurge and stressed on the need to curtail them.
“We have never had cases of cattle rustling in Nyandarua County before but they have now surfaced a trend that we need to clip in the bud before it spreads to other areas,” he said.
Last week Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’I directed that two patrol bases be set up in the county following an uproar by the local leaders that cattle rustling and general crime had hit the area to an alarming proportion.
He promised to beef up security by also deploying police patrol vehicles to conduct random patrols.
Mr Kibicho was speaking when he launched the pilot NIIMS registration at Wanjohi Cooperative Society ground in Kipipiri sub-county, Nyandarua County. He was accompanied by PS in charge of ICT Jerome Ochieng’, Central regional commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga, Nyandarua governor Francis Kimemia and County Commissioner, Boaz Cherutich.
He further put chiefs and their assistance on the spot for failing to curtail the re-emergence of the second generation brews and proliferation drugs such as bhag in the area which were being traded openly with impunity.
The PS warned chiefs that they risked losing their jobs if they failed to stop the practice that had disseminated the youths into non-productive future citizens.
“Don’t think we have forgotten about the fight against illicit brews and substance abuse we are aware that the two vices have once again found ground in Kipipiri and we are determined to ensure that they are wiped out once and for all.
“We are putting chiefs and their assistants on notice that if we find out brewers are still operating in your areas of jurisdiction, you will definitely go home,” he warned.
He also urged the administrators to be responsible and portray the good image of the government noting, “You can’t be a government officer and you are the one being involved in defilement cases or being seen at night clubs taking alcohol while wearing uniform”.
