Governor Mvurya delivers last state of the county address

Kwale County Governor Salim Mvurya has given his last annual State of the County address just less than two months before he ends his second term in office.

The function is in accordance with Part v (18) of the Kwale Assembly Standing Orders and was held for the first time at the new County Assembly chambers in Kwale.

The atmosphere was friendly as the two-term Governor freely mingled with MCAs and the Speaker Sammy Ruwa. “It is truly an honor to have served the people of Kwale as the first Governor of this great County,” he said.

The Governor was accompanied by his County Executive Members, Chief Officers and Directors who he thanked for their years of service In Kwale County Government.

In his address, the Governor acknowledged the improvement in the education sector in Kwale which has been contributed by the construction of model ECDEs throughout the county; the disbursement of the Kwale Bursary Fund which is ongoing and the Construction and initialization of the Kwale Teachers Training College in Kinango sub county.

Governor Mvurya took the MCAs and the public through the milestones made in Kwale since inception of devolution in 2013. “I am happy to have been your first Governor and happier for the great achievements made in our county during my leadership,” he said.

The Governor also highlighted the improvement in the health sector contributed by the increase in the construction of Health centers and a fully-fledged blood bank in Kwale County.

Sectors such as water with improvements of projects in Marere, the initialization of Phase one of the Mwache dam; road projects such as Kinango – Samburu tarmacking, Lungalunga- Vanga road and the near implementation of the Kibaoni-Kwale road were also mentioned.

The out-going county boss said tremendous achievements have been made in education, agriculture, water, tourism and trade, health, water, infrastructure and talent among many others.

He said the Sh. 400 million ‘Elimu ni Sasa’ scholarship programme initiated by his administration has ensured continuity of education through the payment of full sponsorship to needy secondary and college students.

He thanked MCAs, leaders and citizens of Kwale for supporting his administration for the past 10 years.

The Governor appreciated the Speaker’s and the members of Kwale County Assembly for their continued support during his tenure. He also gave special thanks to the people of Kwale for electing him as the Governor as he considered it to be the highlight of his career and life.

Speaker Ruwa thanked the Governor for his tireless effort to improve the lives of the people of Kwale and wished him good fortunes for the years to come.

Present were MCAs, CECs, Chief Officers, Public Service Board Chairman Sombo Mdzomba, Kwale Water Company Managing Director Eric Parmet and other senior government officials and citizens.
