Govt Announces Festive Season Security Preparedness

By Grace Gilo

In an effort to safeguard all citizens and visitors during the festive season, Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo has declared the implementation of a comprehensive multi-agency security strategy.

This initiative includes enhanced security measures at airports, border points, hotels, shopping malls, beaches, places of worship, tourist attractions, and critical infrastructure in major urban areas.

The National Multi-Agency Command Centre (NMACC), headquarters at Lang’ata Barracks, is now operational, uniting personnel from the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service, National Government Administration Officers, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forestry Service, and the Kenya Coast Guard Service to facilitate effective security coordination.

The public can anticipate increased security presence, with over 10,000 officers deployed across the nation, including a specialized all-female SWAT unit dedicated to addressing femicide and gender-based violence.

“The public should expect heightened security with over 10,000 officers deployed nationwide, including a specialized all-female SWAT unit focused on addressing femicide and gender-based violence cases,” stated the Ministry of Interior.

Traffic safety remains a key focus, with additional traffic officers assigned to combat reckless driving, overloaded vehicles, and unlicensed public transport.

Furthermore, owners of shopping malls, entertainment venues, and event organizers are encouraged to work closely with local security teams to enhance private security measures in collaboration with the Private Security Regulatory Authority.

The Government urged the public to report any criminal activities or suspicious behaviour to the nearest police station or through their hotlines.
