Gov’t Launches Rapid Training for Chiefs & Assistant Chiefs to Boost Service Delivery

The Government has rolled out a rapid capacity-building program targeting Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs across the country, a move aimed at revitalizing grassroots administration, enhancing security enforcement and improving service delivery.

Speaking at the National Police College, Embakasi A Campus, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen announced that the first cohort of 1,000 Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs had begun training, with the goal of reaching all 8,000 officers by December.

“In response to the calls at Jukwaa La Usalama, and in furtherance of the Kenya Kwanza manifesto which recognises capacity building for civil servants as a catalyst for effective service delivery, we have embarked on a rapid training program for Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs, beginning with the first cohort of 1,000. Our goal is to have all the more than 8000 Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs trained by December,” stated CS Murkomen.

According to the Interior CS, The program includes induction, paralegal, and security management training, which will pave the way for promotions.

In addition, the ministry have launched standard operating procedures to guide the working relationship between National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) and the National Government Administration Police Unit (NGAPU).

The CS urged the officers to recommit themselves to their duties, particularly in fostering community cohesion, resolving disputes amicably, and combating illicit brews, gender-based violence, and child defilement.

The event was attended by Internal Security and National Administration Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli, and Principal Administrative Secretaries Beverly Opwora and Jacob Narengo, among other senior government officials.
