His Excellency the President Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta today launched the Nairobi Street Kitchen, Nairobi’s newest and most unique dining experience. The first of its kind in Kenya, Nairobi Street Kitchen incorporates an eclectic collection of restaurants, bars and entertainment spaces setting the perfect mood for any occasion.
Speaking at the launch event at Nairobi Street Kitchen, Mpaka Road, Westlands, Simba Corp Group CEO, Mr. Dinesh Kotecha said, “We are extremely pleased to commission the most innovative street food market, in Kenya. It is the first of its kind as it incorporates a kaleidoscope of culinary adventure featuring 11 different cuisines including Mexican, South East Asian, Portuguese, Indian street food presented in fun, expressive and creative ways. Our Passion brings out the best in us and we don’t just satisfy our customers – we delight them with every visit!”
In his remarks, the President congratulated NSK for being innovative and creative to add a unique culinary experience to the hospitality industry. The Ministry of Tourism is encouraging Kenyan destinations to market their experiences to the world.
In 2020 Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife Tourism Research Report to measure the impact of COVID-19 on the local tourism sector which was disrupted by unprecedented drop in hotel demand leading to closure of most hotels and job losses. This was due to cancellation of meetings, conferences, accommodation and exhibitions. Since August, 2020 when international flights were opened up the hospitality industry is recovering. The government is encouraging tourism experiences like NSK to energise the industry, rise from the ashes and thrive again as restrictions are loosened up and economy open ups.
Through its food production and hospitality, NSK is providing employment to Kenyans, which according to Statista the unemployment rate stood at 6.6 percent in the first quarter of 2021 against 5.4 percent in the previous quarter.
Nairobi Street Kitchen is an exceptionally artsy setting and can host musical experiences, party nights, family meals for a lazy Sunday and flea markets. It’s the perfect spot to sit in for a business lunch or romantic dinner and most certainly a nice spot to catch a drink afterwork and on weekends.
