Harambee starlets tear apart Uganda in friendly match

Harambee Starlets proceeded with their preparation for their Spain tournament by thumbing Uganda 4-0 in an international friendly match that took place at Moi Stadium on Sunday, Kisumu.

Match goal scores included Captain Mary Kinuthia, Wendy Achieng and Esse with the captain grabbing a brace for herself.

Winger Atieno was a thorn in Uganda’s flesh as she threatened first in the eighth minute but the keeper was alert to parry away before Cherish Avilia’s rebound was cleared off the line.

Kinuthia scored the opener from the spot after Akida was fouled in the box and calmly converted the penalty.

However, the cranes were not lucky when their keeper Fatumma Matovu brought Neddy down forcing the center referee to send her off for early dressing and Wendy Achieng’s free kick saw starlets strengthen their lead with double.

The second half saw the visitor concede another penalty when Akida was once again hauled in the box for Kinuthia to complete his brace.

Akida who troubled the defence saw her effort awarded with a goal during the second as her brilliant shot made the scoreboard figures change.

Starlets were using the match as part of their preparations ahead of the one week-long  invite only tournament scheduled to take place in Spain from July 31.

Starlet’s team will fly to Germany to play three friendlies against Women Bundesliga sides before returning home to get ready for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The team will represent Kenya for the first time ever in the continental tournaments which will be held in Cameroon later in the year.
