Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has issued a strong warning to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) against licensing unqualified or non-compliant medical facilities, declaring an end to business as usual for officers involved in malpractice.
During his first official visit to the KMPDC offices in Nairobi, CS Duale emphasized the Council’s crucial role in safeguarding healthcare standards under the 2023 Social Health Insurance Act.
He called for strict adherence to integrity, transparency and public service, ensuring all Kenyans have access to safe, quality healthcare delivered by qualified professionals.
“It will not be business as usual,” stated CS Duale.
“Let your operations reflect integrity, transparency, and service to the public,” he urged, while calling for timely service delivery, teamwork and efficient use of public resources.
The CS warned that any compliance or registration officer found engaging in corrupt practices or facilitating the licensing of substandard facilities will face severe consequences.
Hon. Duale also highlighted the Ministry’s Digital Health Agency, which will help identify and eliminate unqualified medical practitioners, ensuring only competent professionals serve the public.
The CS urged KMPDC to work closely with the Ministry, county governments and professional bodies to enhance healthcare delivery.
Hon. Duale assured the Council of the Ministry’s commitment to legislative reforms, resource mobilization and stronger coordination to improve regulatory effectiveness.
Medical Services PS Dr. Ouma Oluga emphasized the need for a clear competency framework to maintain high standards, while Public Health PS Ms. Mary Muthoni and Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth reinforced the call for accountability.
The meeting was attended by KMPDC CEO Dr. David Kariuki and Chair Prof. Stanley Khainga, alongside other senior officials.
