Health CS says they ‘leaked’ details of ‘ongoing’ audit

Health cabinet secretary, Cleopa Mailu, through an official statement marked “Very Urgent”, has aid that the details of the Ksh 5b alleged scandal that aired through one national media was information leaked from an ongoing audit.

“The claim are based on an interim audit report we acknowledge is an ongoing process that was supposedly leaked too early to the media before the Auditee(s)  could respond to the matters raised therein leading to the completion of the final internal audit process for the financial year in question,” said Mailu in a statement sent to the newsroom.

The Cs further added that the interim internal report is being treated by the Ministry of Health with a lot of seriousness it deserves, assuring the public that it is open to internal and external scrutiny. to ensure transparency and proper utilization of allocated funds.

“It is also important to note that the matter being raised is within the mandate of Kenya National Audit Office (KENAO) which is already on the ground auditing the Ministry 2015/19 reports,” further the statement read.

Mailu said that the ministry does not condone acts of corruption, adding that necessary actions will be taken at all times to “guarantee transparency and preserve the value of taxpayer’s money”.

The CS assured making public the final report findings.
