The permanent secretary of treasury together with the Kiambu security team today in Kiganjo Thika Kiambu, launched the nation identification management system (NIMS) also dubbed as Huduma number piloting program.
NIMS is a national system that captures citizen’s details in biometrics and each individual that registers will be given a unique identification number. The details that will be captured in the system are the age, gender, marital status level of education, source of lively hood place of residence, facial features by taking a photograph and finger prints.
Speaking from Kiganjo Thika, the permanent secretary of treasury Dr.Kamau Thugge urged all citizens to register with the NIMS so as to enable the government to have a comprehensive database on each person which will also help the government to plan and distribute resources equally to all citizens with the aim of achieving the big four agenda and reducing corruption.
He also stressed that whoever registers with false information will be prosecuted and face the wrath of the law.
Thika Patrick Wainaina commended the good course of action from the government but sai that it should be done as soon as when a child is born as this will help identify who is a citizen or not, and this will help curtail terrorists in the country.
“I urge the government to be issuing the Huduma number as early as when a child is born or when issuing birth certificate, this will help us identify who is a citizen of Kenya and who is not and therefore this will eradicate terrorists or people living within us illegally.” Said Wainaina.
The permanent secretary of energy, Dr.Joseph Njoroge said that the Huduma number will enable citizens to easily get identification cards, passports, driving licenses and birth certificates. Huduma number will enable them acquire these services online without going through long ques or prolonged time of waiting.
Citizens have been urged to avoid the misconceptions spreading in regards to the Huduma number and should be assured that this exercise is not connected to the apocalyptic 666 number or even collecting the 2022 data for elections.
