Huruma tragedy death toll hits 33 as rescue operations continue

The death toll at the collapsed Huruma building has reached 33 after more bodies were retrieved from the rubble in the night of Thursday, May 5, 2016.

Reports indicate that rescue operations going on at the scene of the accident are ongoing as more people are believed to be trapped in the debris.

It is now close to a week since the building collapsed following heavy rains, and the rescue operation has greatly been hampered by lack of enough space and general congestion in the area.

More than 60 people are reported missing and their next of kin believe they are trapped in the doomed building.

Reports say that a low turn-out of relatives has hampered the process of identifying bodies of the victims of the collapsed building. Out of the 33 bodies retrieved from the rubble only seven have been identified so far.
